Philosophy for Children
What is P4C (Philosophy for Children)?
P4C is an approach to learning that was founded by Professor Matthew Lipman. P4C has developed over 35 years, and is practised in approximately 60 countries.
Children are taught how to create their own philosophical questions. Philosophical questions are questions whose answers are in principle open to informed, rational, and honest disagreement.
Why P4C?
Through enquiry based activities our children will
- learn to think before they speak and give reasons for what they say.
- value their views and the views of others.
- learn respect and negotiation.
- realise that they don’t always have to be right.
- have the confidence to ask questions and learn through discussion.
- have chance to speak and be heard without fear of getting an answer wrong.
