Welcome to Year 4!
Staff: Miss Griffiths and Mrs Foulkes
Hello Year 4 and welcome to our class page! We have started our term as we mean to go on with lots of excellent behaviour, positive attitudes and a healthy work ethic.
Our text for English is Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve. We are really enjoying all of the adventures Oliver has been on so far! We are using this text to develop our reading comprehension skills which a large focus on inference. We are also using this text to provide interesting opportunities for writing such as letters, instructions and diary entries.
In Power Maths we have been working hard to develop our addition and subtraction skills. We have been learning how to do column method with multiple exchanges.
In science we are learning about states of matter. We have enjoyed learning about the properties of solids, liquids and gases and can't wait to start investigations.
We have very high expectations of all children in their learning, attitudes and behaviour. All children must meet these expectations as set out in accordance with our school behaviour policy.
In addition to this, all children will be expected to adhere to our ‘choices and consequences’ chart which reminds children of the behaviours we expect from them when in school.
PE takes place every Thursday and Friday. Children need to have their PE kits in for every lesson. PE kits must include navy shorts, a white t-shirt and black pumps.
Reading is very important. Children must read five time a week and this must be recorded in their reading diaries. Reading diaries must be signed by an adult, and returned to school each day. Lost/damaged reading books require a £4 donation in order to be replaced.
Fruit is on sale every morning on the KS2 yard at 20p per fruit.
School dinners are priced at £2.00 per day, or £10.00 for a full week.
Homework is due in every Tuesday unless otherwise stated. It is of significance that you help your children to complete their homework as independently as possible. Please see the Year 4 homework policy for more details.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries. My aim is to work as closely with parents/guardians in order to ensure a positive, progressive year for every member of Year 4. I am available for a quick chat during the mornings as children enter the classroom. If any matter requires further discussion an appointment can be made.
Letters have been distributed for our annual trip to the Pantomime and the excitement is already building! This year we will be watching The Snow Queen on Thursday 17th January at the Everyman Theatre.
The total cost is £15 per child, including transport. Please make sure the balance is paid by Thursday 20th December We really hope that all of our children will be able to make the most of this exciting opportunity!
