Inset Day: Fri 28th June. Attendance last week was only 93.4%. Be in school every day to progress in every way!

Year 4: Gaiman Class

Welcome to Year 4!

Staff: Miss Griffiths and Miss Wilson

Hello Year 4 and welcome to our class page! We have started our term as we mean to go on with lots of excellent behaviour, positive attitudes and a healthy work ethic.

Our text for English is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe  by C.S Lewis. We can't wait to hear about the adventures of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. We are using this text to develop our reading comprehension skills which a large focus on inference. We are also using this text to provide interesting opportunities for writing such as diary entries, newspaper reports and descriptive writing.

In Power Maths we will be working hard to develop our multiplication and division skills. We will be learning how to do column method with multiple exchanges.

In science we are learning about teeth and eating. We will be studying the different types and functions of human teeth and we will also look at the human digestive system. We can't wait to start investigations.

Reminders:

Behaviour

We have very high expectations of all children in their learning, attitudes and behaviour. All children must meet these expectations as set out in accordance with our school behaviour policy.

In addition to this, all children will be expected to adhere to our ‘choices and consequences’ chart which reminds children of the behaviours we expect from them when in school.

PE

PE takes place every Thursday and Friday. Children need to have their PE kits in for every lesson. PE kits must include navy shorts, a white t-shirt and black pumps.  Additionally, in Year 4, we have swimming sessions each Thursday and children will require a swimming kit, towel and swimming caps (if your child has long hair). Goggles can be worn, although the children are encouraged to try to swim without these. Stud earrings must be removed

Reading

Reading is very important. Children must read five time a week and this must be recorded in their reading diaries. Reading diaries must be signed by an adult, and returned to school each day. Lost/damaged reading books require a £4 donation in order to be replaced.

Dinner/snack

Fruit is on sale every morning on the KS2 yard at 20p per fruit.

School dinners are priced at £2.00 per day, or £10.00 for a full week.

Homework

Homework is due in every Tuesday unless otherwise stated. It is of significance that you help your children to complete their homework as independently as possible. Please see the Year 4 homework policy for more details.

Polite note

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries. My aim is to work as closely with parents/guardians in order to ensure a positive, progressive year for every member of Year 4. I am available for a quick chat during the mornings as children enter the classroom. If any matter requires further discussion an appointment can be made.
