'Learning Together, Being Our Best'

Our School Attendance Target is 97%. Be in School Every Day to Progress in Every Way!

Reception: Ahlberg Class

Welcome to Reception

Staff: Miss Hilton and Mrs Carter

A big welcome to all our children and families in Reception.

This half term we will be looking at traditional tales and learning about special events at this time of year such as the Olympics, Mother's Day and Easter.

We will also be building our communication skills by talking to others about ourselves and listening to find out about others. We will be reading lots of interesting stories and learning new songs. Every day, children will practice counting forwards and backwards, count objects and recognising numbers. We will be learning how to add and take away and begin to record our own calculations! We will also enjoy a variety of activities in and outdoors to develop letter and number formation, social and communication skills.

Reminders

P.E will be every Wednesday morning so you will need your kit in school.

Snack: All children receive free milk and fruit daily. We do ask for a contribution of 50p to help us provide additional healthy snacks which encourages children to try new foods.

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Attendance. The reception year is vitally important as this is the year when children begin to lay the foundations for their future learning. Being in school every day ensures your child has a solid foundation on which to build.
  2. Read, read and read. In reception we begin to learn our sounds and learn how to blend the sounds in words together to read the word. Reading at home is so important as children practise their sounds and reading words, this builds confidence and fluency in reading. Practising your sounds cards at home also helps to support their sound recognition.
  3. Practise writing sentences, letters, words, names, anything they like to support and develop handwriting skills.
  4. Practise counting forwards, backwards, objects, claps etc to support their knowledge of the number system. Finding numbers in the environment to support their number recognition skills. Practise adding groups together or take away.

Our first week.

I am very impressed with how well everyone has settled into school. We have had a brilliant first week with lots of fun activities. We have explored our classroom, learned new routines, listened to stories, talked about ourselves, learned about others and made lots of friends.

I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year of learning!
